Many people do not realize that contamination in the underground water supply can lead to buildup of the same contamination in the air of one’s home. This is often overlooked, especially when public water is supplied to the house or the residents rely on bottled water for drinking and cooking.
While this source of exposure is not obvious to most, it can be significant. This is true for homes built with a basement or crawlspace or when young children are exposed due to their heightened sensitivity to environmental contaminants.
Often those responsible for the contamination fail to mention this source of exposure to the public, and it is also overlooked by local state and federal environmental agencies.
